Life Hack-Notebook and Google Slides

I have been a SmartBoard-o-phile for years. YEARS. I was the first person in my school to procure one, and it changed my life. I loved all of the interactive possibilities: the screen shade, the "lock and move" feature, the "click and appear" animation. I cannot begin to tell you how many Notebook files I have. Notebook is the amazing software for the SmartBoard, though I know teachers without SmartBoards who have used it.

But of course, like all good things, I knew that it was only a matter of time before SmartBoards went the way of the overhead projectors, and my NB files would be of no use anymore. I have spent hours and hours collecting images, activities, and games with NoteBook. So, at the beginning of this year, I decided I needed to find something that would be an acceptable replacement. I set out to do some research and lo and behold, I discovered something AMAZING.

So, if you find yourself in this situation, worried that you will eventually lose years of files into which you poured blood, sweat, and tears, FEAR NOT! I have a solution for you. And seeing as I'm a lazy person, I always look for the easiest path possible. So I'm going to show you how to transfer your NB files to Google Slides and maintain all images and text!! Animation, however, does not transfer :( but it can be added in again once the file is converted.

If you have a PC, then you're golden. If you have a Mac, it takes a little more work and time.
PC users-click on the video above ​to see what to do. The Cliff Notes version is that you export the file as a PowerPoint, upload it to Drive, and then open that presentation with Google Slides.
For some reason, this is not an option for iOS.  Luckily, my school's SLP has a PC that happens to have NB loaded onto it. So I bought one month of Microsoft 365 (formerly Office) and BAM. Done! (However, it might be worth going through the steps even if yo don't have Microsoft 365; I didn't think to check to see if it is possible to export a NB files as a PPT file without actually having PowerPoint! If you try and it works, let me know! Actually, don't. I know want to know that I wasted $ on Microsoft 365!!)

OK, for iOS, you have two options. The easiest way is to simply export the NB file in PDF format. You lose the interactivity, but if that doesn't matter to you, then this is a fine solution. The other, which I mention in my video, involves a website called Smart Notebook Viewer and Reader. But, to be honest, I have no idea why anyone would bother with this; it basically gives you the same thing as a PDF file, except you're viewing it in a browser window. (The first thing I discovered for Mac users would have brought the pages of a NB file into GS as images, but if you watch the video, you'll see that it just doesn't work.)
So, grab yourself a cup of coffee, settle down on the couch with something brainless on TV (don't tell anyone, but my guilty pleasure is RBOBH!), and set up your PC to do some file converting!
